Hey guys you’re up . So for this I went back and read some past Priesthood session talks and summaries along with the readings for my class so hope you guys enjoy !
As stated in the Family Proclamation : ALL HUMAN BEINGS—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.
Elder Carlos E. Asay said the following : “What is man?” asked the psalmist. (Ps. 8:4 )The answer: “[God] made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.” ( Ps. 8:4–6) It is, therefore, our responsibility to climb ever upward and to wear God-given crowns honorably. Young men, especially those of a “chosen generation” and “royal priesthood,” must understand that they are the spiritual offspring of God and that no one becomes in truth a man until he reverences the Father of spirits and allows inner powers to control his thoughts, words, and actions.
Men preside , provide and protect .
Let’s take it back to 1971 and the words from Joseph Fielding Smith , “ This priesthood which we possess is the power and authority of the Lord himself; and he has promised us that if we magnify our callings and walk in the light, as he is in the light, we shall have glory and honor with him forever in his Father’s kingdom.”
Integrity is fundamental to being men , it means being truthful as well as accepting responsibility and honoring commitments and covenants
Elder Todd Christopherson said the following : “Work for an education. Get all the training that you can. The world will largely pay you what it thinks you are worth. Paul did not mince words when he wrote to Timothy, ‘But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel’ (1 Tim. 5:8).”
The family proclamation states : By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families.
In 1994 president Howard Hunter said the following about men :
- A man who holds the priesthood shows perfect moral fidelity to his wife and gives her no reason to doubt his faithfulness.
- A man who holds the priesthood has reverence for motherhood.
- A man who holds the priesthood regards the family as ordained of God. Your leadership of the family is your most important and sacred responsibility. By divine appointment, the responsibility to preside in the home rests upon the priesthood holder. Presiding in righteousness necessitates a shared responsibility between husband and wife; together you act with knowledge and participation in all family matters.
- A man who holds the priesthood leads his family in Church participation so they will know the gospel and be under the protection of the covenants and ordinances. As patriarch in the home, exercise your priesthood through performing the appropriate ordinances for your family and by giving blessings.
